Construction Training

Learn Construction

YouthBuild participants gain meaningful, hands-on experience in construction and teamwork by working together to build residential housing in the local community. This also supports community development by expanding the supply of permanent affordable housing.

The construction site supervisor and site trainer teach and lead the crew through all phases of construction, emphasizing safety, skills development, and quality construction. YouthBuild participants may also help support other types of community development projects.

logoThrough the program, participants are able to complete their Home Builders Institute Pre-Apprenticeship Certification Training (HBI PACT).

The training program alternates between job-site construction training and classroom instruction. Many topics are covered including:

  • Safety and first aid
  • Construction math
  • Tools and construction materials
  • Green building
  • Blueprint reading
  • Vocabulary and terminology
Earn While You Learn
YouthBuild participants earn minimum wage for on-site construction training and an hourly stipend for participation in other educational activities. A transportation stipend is also available for trainees who transport themselves to and from work.
