Become a Leader

Personal Development

YouthBuild participants are given the opportunity to practice leadership, and are expected to develop skills and leadership values that relate to home, work, and community.

Being a leader means you are someone who acts with integrity and makes responsible decisions, with the aim of improving the quality of life for yourself, your family, and your community.

YouthBuild North Central firmly believes those that we serve are our greatest resource to building a better future for the community.

Personal development is a big part of leadership development, and all trainees participate in activities aimed at personal development and self-sufficiency. Training will focus on developing personal, small group, and community leadership competencies such as:

  • Effective scheduling & time management
  • Goal-setting
  • Financial literacy
  • Public speaking
  • Social media networking
  • Researching & note taking
  • Civic engagement
  • Community building

Community Leadership

Service learning projects are designed to build community leadership skills and include activities in which YouthBuild trainees contribute time and effort to assist other community organizations. Whenever possible, trainees will be given the opportunity to choose projects that appeal to them.

There are many benefits to participating in service learning projects, including:

  • Learning about critical issues affecting your community
  • Learning how you can have an impact on your community
  • Practicing skills you have learned through YouthBuild
  • Meeting people who will help expand your social and professional network
